Reading Street: This week in Reading Street we are reading “We are So Proud” which talks about how children can cooperate with others at school and at home. We are reviewing our two sight words, “I” and “am”. Our Amazing Words which help us build vocabulary for week 1 include: “creation, cooperation, float, guide, preparation, proud”.
Reminder that each week your child will be bringing home either a red or blue plastic folder. Group A folders will come home on Wednesday’s and Group B will be coming home every Thursday. It is VERY important to look through the papers in the folder, empty and return the folder back to school the NEXT school day. The folders are also a great way for parents to send teachers important notes, papers, etc… Please make sure your child brings back the folder each week, so we can use it all year.
Snacks: It is very important that your child bring a small snack each day. It can be a small baggie of dry cereal, grapes, apple, pretzels, crackers, etc… Please NO liquids of any kind. The children eat their snacks at their desk, and we are trying to avoid big messes.
Lunch Money: Please only send money in a baggie or in an envelope with your child’s name on it. Each Kindergarten class has over 23 students, and when they all bring dollar bills/ coins with no name, or envelope, we are afraid it will get lost.
Today in your red folder you will find your child’s Reading Street Login username and password. This is NOT a requirement to use, but you will find it a great tool to have to help your child be successful. Your child will be able to read books online that are at their reading level. You will also be able to use the interactive tools that we use in the classroom for each lesson.
Report Card Copy: Today you will find a copy of the Kindergarten Report Card. This is to let you know in advance what it being assessed each quarter for your child. The shading in areas, are areas that are not being tested that quarter. The end of the 1st quarter is October 25th. Kindergarten has to do one-on-one assessments of each child, and assessment do not start until 3 weeks before the end of the quarter. Please work on the skills at home for first quarter which include: Identify letters, sounds, recognize rhyming words, produce words that rhyme, etc….
Just a heads-up. I will have a sub in my classroom in the afternoon of Monday, September 16th, and all day Tuesday, September 17th. Mrs. Wells, the other Kindergarten teacher, will be working with my sub to make sure everything is ok. My mom’s surgery is going to be Tuesday, so any prayers would be greatly appreciated.
